La "Bank of China":
Comment imaginer que cet endroit fût une campagne (Hong Kong cricket club and grounds). Ce monument, 70 étages élancés, tout en emboîtements de losanges et de prismes brisés qui montent vers le ciel, jeu bleuté des reflets de verres entre mer et nuages, est un cadeau de l’architecte Pei Yeih Ming, qui voulait exprimer la puissance vitale de la jeune pousse de bambou.

| Bank of China Tower (367m/1,205f, 72 stories, 1990), currently Hong Kong's 3rd tallest and designed by I.M. Pei. It was the city's tallest from 1989-1992, when Central Plaza took that title. It's a truly remarkable building and one of the most beautiful ever built. The building has a small skydeck on the 42nd floor, which gives a view to the northwest. This deck can be entered without admission. Without the two spire-construction the building would have a height of 305m/1,001f. The topping out of the building took place on 8-8-1988.The number 8 (baat in Cantonese) sounds akin to the word for prosperity, hence the remarkable and auspicious date.The building was officially opened on May 17, 1990. | ||

Hong Kong's tallest: Two International Finance Centre (415m/1,362f tall, 88 stories, 2003). It will be Hong Kong's tallest for at least four years, until the 474m/1,555f, 111 stories tall Union Square Phase 7 will be completed (2007). The building was built on reclaimed land and is part of a US$2.8 billion complex, which includes the shorter One IFC, the yet-to-be completed Four Seasons Hotel, a large luxury shopping mall and Hong Kong Station. |

The Foster designed HSBC Headquarters Building emerges from nighttime obscurity beneath a new, dynamic lighting scheme. A key component in the Victoria Harbour Lighting Plan - theatre, architecture and technology converge in a celebration of success, both commercial and architectural. Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organizations. HSBC has recently illuminated their Hong Kong headquarters, one of the world’s most internationally significant architectural buildings, in a colorful dress of dynamic light. Launched in January 2004, the HSBC illumination is part of the Victoria Harbour Lighting Plan, a permanent lighting and special effects son et lumiere consisting of the illumination of 18 of Hong Kong’s most prominent buildings. |
